Double Clutch by Liz Reinhardt
“What happens when you fall for the perfect guy…twice…in one day? Brenna Blixen spent her freshman year homeschooling in Denmark; now that she’s back in the States, she’s determined to make her sophomore year unforgettable. And by unforgettable, she imagined awesome classes, fun friendships, and maybe a little romance. What she got was a whole lot of romance, and all at once. The same day that dark, brooding Saxon Maclean charmed her with his killer good looks and whip-smart wit, Jake Kelly stole her breath away with his heart-wrenching smile and intelligent, thoughtful focus. But Saxon is a proud player who makes it clear that he doesn’t know why he can’t get Brenna off of his mind and out of his system, and Jake’s sweet and humble attitude hides a secret past life that might be darker and more complex than Brenna is willing to deal with. Complicating the matter is the fact that Saxon and Jake were once best friends and are now arch-enemies…and the more Brenna finds out about their connection to each other, the more intrigued and worried she becomes. Between keeping the peace with her lovingly over-protective parents, designing t-shirts for her high school’s rising punk band, keeping up her grades in classes split between academic and technical high school, and running the track like a maniac, Brenna has enough to worry about without juggling two guys who make her heart thud and drive her crazy all at once. She has to make a choice, but how is she supposed to do that when giving her heart to one of them might mean breaking the other’s?”

I have said this many times previously on my blog, but in case you are new – I have never been a big fan of love triangles. They have to be done correctly, I have to see the appeal of both guys. Often times authors just give you two guys and the girl is into them. No build-up, no real reason, it just is. I almost didn’t accept Double Clutch for review, because of the synopsis! In the end, I decided to go ahead and do so because there was something about the author I just liked. (Yes, I admitted it. I do sometimes accept books, just because the authors are so nice. It’s never actually backfired on me yet! *fingers crossed*) I am SO happy I did accept though, because Liz Reinhart, dear readers, is brilliant.

Both boys are simply AMAZING. When Brenna met Saxon, I decided right away that no other boy she threw at me could live up to him. He’s sexy, irritating, and just the all around player. Yep, I admit it, I’m almost always drawn to that type. Then Jake comes into the picture shortly after. He’s charming, artsy, and while he has a bad-boy history it seems he’s moved on from that. SO not far, guys, I want my own..I don’t even care which one!

Not only are both boys swoon-worthy, Brenna is the perfect sort of main character. She’s got attitude, but she’s fun. The sort of person you want as a friend. It’s obvious why both boys are so smitten with her.

While a quick read, the story is well-developed. There is no insta-love! Rarely do you get to see the characters feelings develop slowly over the course of the book, but that happens here. I kept giggling at situations and wondering just what was coming next.

To further explain my love of these characters and book – just 50 pages in I was already telling my friends to just go buy it. Now, I urge all of you to go purchase Double Clutch immediately. Then join me in stalking Liz until the second book comes out later this year. (Also, Liz’ll be here Saturday with one of the cutest guest posts I’ve ever read.)

Warning time! The book is aimed at older YA readers. There are sexual scenes so please take that into consideration.

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
