Review: Human .4 – Mike Lancaster

by LetterInsideOut

“Kyle Straker volunteered to be hypnotized at the annual community talent show, expecting the same old lame amateur acts. But when he wakes up, his world will never be the same. Televisions and computers no longer work, but a strange language streams across their screens. Everyone’s behaving oddly. It’s as if Kyle doesn’t exist.

Is this nightmare a result of the hypnosis? Will Kyle wake up with a snap of fingers to roars of laughter? Or is this something much more sinister?

Narrated on a set of found cassette tapes at an unspecified point in the future, Human.4 is an absolutely chilling look at technology gone too far.”

All I can say is “Wow”.  This is one of those books I didn’t have very high hopes for, the premise sounded interesting, I love the cover..I just didn’t want to get my hopes up.

This is a mix of sci-fi and dystopia that is fresh and fun.  It reminded me of an old episode of the Twilight Zone, because of it’s creepy vibe.

My only disappointment is the way it ended.  I wanted to know what happened to Kyle and Lilly.  I also want to know more about the new world, which was touched on, but this story was focused on the main characters and their treatment in this new world.  It’s definitely worth checking out, but I hope a sequel will be written.
