Today LIO is taking part in the blog for for Angela Carling’s newest book Shackled. I really enjoyed it! When I was asked if I wanted to do an interview with a character I immediately wanted to interview Mason! I’ll be reviewing the book soon, but in the meantime…enjoy.

After shy, quiet Lucy and her family move from their small hometown in Minnesota to Seattle, Washington, she is surprised when Ryan, the most popular boy at school asks her out. Soon, she is swept up in a whirlwind romance and her naïve and trusting nature allows her to fall head over heels in love with her too-good-to-be suitor. Suddenly, Lucy finds herself enraptured by the excitement of her new relationship, leaving her blinded to the warning signs of danger ahead. Can her fairy tale romance last, or will she find that her prince charming is more like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Hi Mason! Thanks for joining me here on Letters Inside Out today!

Thanks for having me.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I don’t know what to tell you. I’m just a regular American teenager. I’m kind of tall, and my friends are always telling me I need to get a haircut. I live with just my dad and like most guys do, I love to play hoops. I’ve lived in Seattle all my life and when I need to think, I go down to the water and watch the boats come into the port. I do pretty well in school. I’d like to go on to college, maybe become an airplane architect or maybe a high school basketball coach, something where I can make a big difference in people’s lives. Like, I said, just an average guy.

What about telling us a bit about your friendship with Ryan.

Ryan and I have known each other since we were kids. Even though, we’re complete opposites, we always stuck by each other. He was there for me when my mom passed away. Ryan was the rich boy that always got the girl, but I had real hands on Dad while Ryan’s dad was always away with his bigwig FBI job and pretty much treated him like dirt. I always championed Ryan’s successes and I was never jealous of his money or popularity, at least until Lucy.

What was your first thought when you saw Lucy for the first time?

She was so indescribably beautiful, but different gentle and kind, not like any of the girls I knew in Seattle. Only one thought came to mind, I had to find some way to have her in my life.

Is there anything you’d like to go back in time and change?

Ironically, in the last question, we were just talking about my one regret. I didn’t know it, but my best friend Ryan had already met her and all but stolen her heart. If I could go back in time, I would be there to meet her at the school gate on her first day of school. Most importantly, I would get there before Ryan and maybe she would love me first, and be saved from all that heartache…and never be shackled.

If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life – no changes – what would it be?

French Fries, with a ton of salt, of course.

If you could meet and chat with anyone – dead or alive – who would it be and why?

Robin Hood. I admire his whole righting the wrong thing.

This or that –
Couch potato or outdoorsy:? Definitely outdoorsy! Camping, hiking, anything to stay in shape and not be stuck inside.
Basketball or football:? Basketball. There’s nothing like hitting a three pointer at the buzzer to win the game.
Scary or comedy movies?: I love a good comedy. You’ve got to keep your sense of humor.
Sweet or salty snacks?: Salty, especially popcorn!
Rock or alternative music?: I was raised on classic rock and it’s still my favorite.
