Blood can both wound and heal . . .

Willa is lucky: She has a loving blended family that gets along. Not all families are so fortunate. But when a bloody crime takes place hundreds of miles away, it has an explosive effect on Willa’s peaceful life. The estranged father she hardly remembers has murdered his new wife and children, and is headed east toward Willa and her mother. Under police protection, Willa discovers that her mother has harbored secrets that are threatening to boil over. Has everything Willa believed about herself been a lie? But as Willa sets out to untangle the mysteries of her past, she also keeps her own secret—one that has the potential to tear apart all she holds dear.

Because Blood Wounds is pretty short and the synopsis wraps up the story pretty well, I’m just going to hit on my feelings about it and the characters. I enjoyed Blood Wounds, it was very suspense-filled. Once Willa and her mother are safe, she proceeds to go to her birth town to go to the funeral of her sisters.

Overall, I enjoyed Blood Wounds, I was a bit disappointed though that the actual crime itself and hiding out didn’t consist of much of the story. That sounds gruesome, but it doesn’t take up as much of the story as the synopsis makes it sound. Most of the book covers the after math.

Willa is an amazing character, I definitely feel for her. She’s happy, but at the same time something is seriously wrong. The secrets of her life before her mother remarried are heartbreaking. The lack of focus of her own “secret” concerns me. (I’m sorry for those of you that don’t mind minor spoilers, I’m trying to make that as spoiler-free as possible for those that hate them! If you want more details feel free to contact me.) Her step-sisters, Brooke and Alyssa, annoyed me. They are very stereotypical and spoiled.

Blood Wounds is perfect for those who love “tough issues”, suspense, and crime-related books. It goes on sale on September 13th.

Warning: Blood Wounds is a bit gruesome. There are details of the crime scenes and throughout the story some rumors/possible facts come to light that are VERY disturbing.

I received my copy for review from the publisher.
